1. Introduction
This Privacy Policy explains how AdventureManager ("the App", "we", "us") handles information when
you use the application. AdventureManager is designed with privacy as a core principle: we do not
collect, store, process, or have access to your personal data or travel information. This policy
explains what that means in practice and what your rights are.
Please read this policy carefully before using the App.
2. Who is responsible for your data?
Under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and applicable privacy law, the person or
organisation that determines the purpose and means of processing personal data is called the
"data controller".
For AdventureManager:
- You are the data controller for all travel data you create or import into the App.
- Evert Hoogendoorn (the developer) is NOT a data controller for your travel data, because we have no technical access to it, do not determine how it is used, and do not process it on our systems.
We are the data controller only for the limited technical infrastructure required to make the App available on the App Store (see Section 8).
3. What data the App stores
When you use AdventureManager, the App may store the following types of information:
- Trip details: destination, dates, itinerary, accommodation, transport
- Group member names and roles: names you enter for yourself and travel companions
- Expenses and budgets: costs associated with your trip
- Contact information: phone numbers, email addresses, and websites of hotels, restaurants, and venues you add
- Location data: GPS coordinates you manually enter or that are geocoded from addresses you provide
- Photos: images you add to your trip
- Diary entries and packing lists: personal notes and lists you create
All of this data is stored exclusively on your own device and in your personal iCloud account. It is not stored on any server owned or operated by the developer.
4. Where your data is stored — iCloud and Apple CloudKit
AdventureManager uses Apple CloudKit, Apple's cloud infrastructure service, to synchronise your data between your own Apple devices and to enable sharing between travel companions.
This means:
- Your data is stored in your personal iCloud account, managed by Apple Inc.
- The developer has no access to your iCloud data. Apple's infrastructure enforces this technical separation at the platform level.
- Synchronisation between your devices happens automatically via Apple's servers, subject to Apple's own privacy policy and terms of service.
- Your data is stored in a private partition of the CloudKit container that is associated with your Apple ID only.
For information on how Apple handles your iCloud data, please refer to Apple's Privacy Policy at: apple.com/privacy
5. Sharing your trip with others
AdventureManager allows you to share a trip with travel companions using an invite link. When you do this:
- You voluntarily choose to share specific trip data with specific people.
- A shared copy of the trip is made accessible via Apple's CloudKit sharing infrastructure, under your Apple ID.
- The people you invite can read the shared trip data on their own devices.
- You are responsible for deciding what data to share and with whom.
- You can revoke access to a shared trip at any time from within the App.
The developer does not participate in, facilitate, or have visibility into the content of shared trips.
6. AdventurePack files
AdventurePack (.adventurepack) files are archive files containing your trip data in a portable format. When you create or share an AdventurePack:
- The file is stored on your device or in your iCloud Drive.
- You are solely responsible for where you send the file, who receives it, and how it is stored or handled by the recipient.
- The developer does not transmit, store, or have access to AdventurePack files you create.
You should treat an AdventurePack file the same way you would treat any document containing personal travel and contact information.
7. Data we do not collect
The developer does NOT collect, receive, store, sell, or process:
- Your name, email address, or Apple ID
- Your location or GPS data
- Your travel plans, itinerary, or booking information
- Your expenses or financial information
- Analytics data or usage statistics from within the App
- Crash reports or diagnostic data beyond what Apple may collect through the App Store (see Section 8)
There are no third-party analytics libraries, advertising SDKs, or tracking tools in AdventureManager.
8. Limited data through Apple's App Store infrastructure
As an App Store developer, we have access to anonymised, aggregated information provided by Apple, including:
- Number of downloads and installations
- Crash reports (anonymised, through Apple's developer tools)
- App Store ratings and reviews (public)
This information is provided by Apple in anonymised form and cannot be linked to any individual user. It is used solely to improve the App.
9. Your rights under the GDPR
Under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), you have the following rights regarding personal data:
- Right of access: You can see all your data at any time — it is stored locally on your device and in your iCloud account.
- Right to erasure ("right to be forgotten"): You can delete your data by deleting trips within the App, deleting the App, or deleting data from your iCloud account via Settings → [Your Name] → iCloud on your device.
- Right to data portability: You can export your trip data at any time using the AdventurePack export function.
- Right to rectification: You can edit all data directly within the App at any time.
- Right to object / restrict processing: Because we do not process your personal data, there is nothing to object to on our side. To restrict Apple's processing of your iCloud data, please refer to your iCloud and Apple ID settings.
Because the developer does not hold your personal data, data subject requests (access, deletion, portability) must be directed to Apple for iCloud data, or exercised directly on your own device.
10. Data security
We have designed AdventureManager so that your data never passes through systems we control. As a result:
- Data in transit between your device and iCloud is encrypted by Apple using industry-standard protocols (TLS/HTTPS).
- Data at rest in iCloud is encrypted by Apple.
- The developer has taken no additional security measures for user data, because the developer does not have access to user data.
You are responsible for:
- Keeping your Apple ID and iCloud account secure
- Deciding who you share your trip data with
- Protecting AdventurePack files you export and distribute
11. Limitation of liability for data breaches
Because AdventureManager stores all user data exclusively in the user's own iCloud account, and because
the developer has no technical access to this data at any time:
THE DEVELOPER CANNOT BE HELD LIABLE FOR ANY DATA BREACH, UNAUTHORISED ACCESS,
LOSS, OR MISUSE OF DATA STORED IN A USER'S ICLOUD ACCOUNT.
Any security incident affecting your data would be a matter between you and Apple Inc., governed by Apple's terms of service and applicable law.
The developer is also not liable for:
- Data you choose to share with other users via the invite/sharing function
- The handling of AdventurePack files after you have distributed them
- Third-party access to your data as a result of your own device being compromised
- Actions of travel companions who have been granted access to a shared trip
In the event of a security vulnerability within the App itself (e.g. a bug that could expose data), we commit to addressing it promptly and notifying affected users where feasible.
12. Children's privacy
AdventureManager is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal
data from children. Because all data is stored in the user's own iCloud account, parental controls and
restrictions for minors are governed by Apple's Family Sharing and Screen Time features.
13. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The current version is always available at
adventuremanager.nl/privacy-en.html.
If we make material changes, we will update the date at the top of this policy. Continued use of the
App after a change constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
14. Contact
If you have questions about this Privacy Policy or about privacy practices in the App:
For questions about your iCloud data specifically, please contact Apple at: apple.com/privacy
This privacy policy is written in plain language to be accessible to all users.
Where legal interpretation is required, the substance of the policy governs, not any particular phrasing.
